Why Not Another Abraham Accord; Declandestining the Israel-Pakistan Relations
מאת Ahmed Raza
תקציר
On 15th September 2020, four Arab states; Morocco, Sudan, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain formally endorsed to establish friendly relations with Israel; following the footstep of a (so-called) secret move undertaken by Jordan and Israel in 1994. Prior to these diplomatic ventures, President Anwar Sadat emerged as the staunchest proponent of Realpolitik and concluded the treaty of friendship with Israel on 17th September 1978, popularly known as the Camp David Accords. Recalling back in 1979, almost the entire Muslim community worldwide (apparently) renounced the deal. The whole Muslim world set itself ablaze. Egypt was expelled from the Arab League but, ultimately rejoined in 1989 within a span of a decade. Probably, the wisdom prevailed that Egypt was the strongest Arab state which broke the myth of the Israeli Army’s invincibility; a notion that Israelis never claimed. When President Anwar Sadat was assassinated on 6th October 1981, the Muslim world conceivably remained oblivious to the incident. The same trend of obliviousness has been experienced after signing Abraham Accords between Israel and four Arab states. In fact, majority of the Arab world is in either covert or overt relationship with Israel. Out of 193 United Nations’ member states, 163 recognize Israel and maintain full diplomatic relations barring 30 countries including Pakistan. It is important to mention that the Palestinian Authority, due to which Pakistan is keeping itself aloof from Israel, has already recognized Israel. This research paper dilates on Pakistan’s foreign policy towards Israel which prevents it from recognizing the most powerful and technologically the most advanced state in the Middle East.
