Women and the Politics of Religion in Israel

The lack of a written constitution in Israel and the agreement by Israel's founders to turn family law over to Orthodox rabbinical courts has severely circumscribed gender equality in that country. The decision not to write a constitution stemmed from the secular/Orthodox clash that exists to this day.
